Understanding Religious Fanatics – Non Violence

June 28, 2009

Yesterday morning in the city centre of our city we were being entertained by the Pan Pipe band from Peru. They come to the city two to three times a year to bring a touch of South America music. However as they were playing a band started to set up. After two songs by the Pan Pipe Band from Peru the other band started their music. The music did have a nice sound to it, and was reasonably entertaining. They were from a local church set by an African Group worshipping Jesus with everyone being black. The music involved dancing and singing. At first i was impressed but it seemed like the same songs was played over and over. After over two hours of the same song it was apparant they had no plans to stop, and no plan to let the Pan Pipe band start from Peru. After speaking to the head of the Pan Pipe band he advised me he thought they were going to play song about but this was never going to happen. Even though it was a public space, when the Socialist Party set up a table to gather votes and petition against the BNP, they were soon forced to leave by the Jesus Church Band.

Love of a Flower

June 27, 2009

Love is in every moment
When you are happy, when you are sad
Love completes us; it surrounds us
It makes us angry, it makes us mad

Life’s true search is for love
From your birth, to your death
To taste it, to smell it
Experience it; in every breath

Love comes from your heart
A special place deep inside
It needs to be nurtured
To ensure two souls collide

Misunderstanding of Mary Magdalene as a prostitute?

June 25, 2009

For centuries, Mary Magdalene has been incorrectly identified in Western Christianity as an adulteress and repentant prostitute, although nowhere does the New Testament identify her as such. Discoveries of new texts and critical insight have now proven that portrait of Mary is entirely inaccurate. According to Harvard theologian Karen King, Mary Magdalene was a prominent disciple and leader of one wing of the early Christian movement that promoted women’s leadership.

King cites references in the Gospel of John that the risen Jesus gives Mary special teaching and commissions her as an “apostle to the apostles.” She is the first to announce the resurrection and to play the role of an apostle, although the term is not specifically used of her (though, in Eastern Christianity she is referred to as “Equal to the Apostles”). Later tradition, however, names her as “the apostle to the apostles.” King writes that the strength of this literary tradition makes it possible to suggest that historically Mary was a prophetic visionary and leader within one sector of the early Christian movement after the death of Jesus.

The Three Wise Men (Magi) were from Iran?

June 23, 2009

It is assumed that there were three wise men because of the three gifts that were given: gold, incense, and myrrh (Matthew 2:11). However, the Bible does not say there were only three wise men.

This means there could have been many more. Tradition says that there were three and that their names were Gaspar, Melchior, and Balthasar, but since the Bible does not say, we have no way of knowing whether this is true.

Dealing with the Temper of life?

June 15, 2009

Why is it you act in a certain way? What is the reason behind getting upset with a situation when it won’t make any difference? Life is meant to test your resolve, and your life allows you to modify your behaviour to become more adaptable to the situation. Basically bite your tongue and go with the flow.

Today I saw a number of faces from my past who all, were pleased to see me. I also saw a number of faces I never took the opportunity to speak to and just let the situation slide by. Why? Perhaps it’s because I’ve changed, or am trying to change?

Adolf Hitler’s Entry into Politics

June 2, 2009

A copy of Adolf Hitler’s forged German Workers’ Party (DAP) membership card. His actual membership number was 555 (the 55th member of the party—the 500 was added to make the group appear larger) but later the number was reduced to create the impression that Hitler was one of the founding members. Hitler had wanted to create his own party, but was ordered by his superiors in the Reichswehr to infiltrate an existing one instead.
