Two people were arrested after several law enforcement agencies responded late Sunday night to a report of multiple gunshots at a party at a church in unincorporated San Lorenzo, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 11:15 p.m., sheriff’s deputies heard the sound of multiple gunshots and responded to the area of San Lorenzo Baptist Church, located at 180 East Lewelling Blvd.
The deputies arrived to find about 300 people dispersing from a dance party at the church. Officers from the Dublin, Hayward, San Leandro, BART, and East Bay Regional Park District police departments also responded to assist with the investigation and to control the crowd.
The crowd was large and unruly, and two people were arrested for delaying or interfering with the police investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. The deputies initially detained about 100 people, mostly teenagers.
Investigators searched the area and determined that there were no injuries, but recovered multiple rifle and handgun rounds that had been shot in the area.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation and is trying to identify and apprehend the shooter or shooters. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the anonymous tip line at
